The Gambia

Also known as “The Smiling Coast,” The Gambia is the smallest country in Africa. The country is surrounded by Senegal, except for its western coast on the Atlantic Ocean. Through the center of the country flows the River Gambia, the namesake of this country. The Gambia does not have any natural resources. The countries main income comes from tourism offering sandy beaches and variety of exotic and rare birds. According to World Bank data, the country has more than 48 percent of the national poverty rate.

School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) are in two communities, Bwiam and Soma, serving in educational sector and pastoral work.
