Become a Sister

The School Sisters of Notre Dame is an international congregation of over 2,200 sisters ministering in 30 countries, united in the vision and mission by our leaders in Rome. Our African ministries are in Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Kenya.

We are educators for transformation. We educate at all levels, both in schools and in informal settings. We believe that education can transform persons, and change the world. We have a strong commitment to the education of girls.

What are the steps to becoming a sister?

First, get in touch with us and share your desire with the Vocation Director. We will listen to you, respond to your questions and assist you on your discernment journey through the following stages:

Affiliate:

Continue with your education or employment and meet monthly with an SSND to learn more about our life and mission.

Caught up in Christ's unconditional love, we dare you to say Yes!
Celebration of First Profession of Vows, July 3, 2020

Postulant:

Join affiliates from other African countries in Kisumu, Kenya for a two-year postulancy program.

Novice:

Come to the Novitiate in Rome for two years of developing your understanding of religious life.

Professed Sister:

Take vows of gospel poverty, consecrated celibacy and apostolic obedience and begin your service in one of our African missions.
