Shalom is the international network for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation for the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Each sister is a member of the Shalom Network. The network is guided by an international coordinator stationed at the Generalate in Rome and five continental branch representatives working with contact sisters in every country where sisters minister.

"This is what the Lord asks of you: only this, to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8

Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC)

A concern in all of our ministries is the establishment of a just society. We work both to enable persons to reach the fullness of their potential and to create a global community where human dignity is respected, the environment is treasured, and spirituality is nourished. The needs of women, children, and those who are poor are our particular focus. Our internationality challenges us to develop a global vision and prepares us to serve people of different cultural backgrounds. Together we witness to the possibility of overcoming national and cultural barriers so that all may be one in God.

Sisters in Makeni Community

In this spirit, we, the School Sisters of Notre Dame:

  • witness to reconciliation and unity in a divided world by the way we live together,
  • educate with the conviction that the world can be changed through the transformation of persons (YAS, C 22),
  • act through the international Shalom Network for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation.

Bring the needs and concerns of the world to the global community through affiliation with the United Nations.

The Shalom Network advocates for just structures that nurture fullness of life while changing unjust structures that inhibit life. In the Province of Africa, we have identified particular areas of focus:

In the spirit of Blessed M. Theresa and Mother M. Caroline, we the members of the Shalom Africa Branch, guided by You Are Sent, Love Gives Everything, and Laudato Si', commit to educate, advocate, act in collaboration with others for the dignity of life and care of all creation. We invite you to learn more about our "Focus and Commitments."

Collaborate with us to take action by advocating, writing articles, Shalom newsletter, send pictures and explore ways we can get involved through Shalom-JPIC and Talitha Kum.
