Vowed Life: A life of commitment and availability
Reflection by Sister Cecilia Muunda Mwende

As a young sister, I've come to understand that vowed life is a journey of commitment and availability to God's daily call. As a member of the Soma community and a teacher at Notre Dame School in The Gambia, I've been blessed to live out my vows in a meaningful way.
When interacting with young people, I'm often asked questions about our lifestyle. They wonder how we can claim to be poor when we have a good house and manage a school. They question how we live a chaste life, and why we need to consult with our sisters before making decisions.
These questions prompt me to reflect on my values and gratitude for the life I've vowed to live. Through community life, I've learned to embody the vows of poverty, obedience, and celibacy. I'm supported, affirmed, and encouraged by my sisters, and I'm challenged to grow in my faith.

As an educator, I strive to instill knowledge and values in my students, empowering them to become responsible citizens. I promote Shalom values, ecological awareness, and unity, mirroring Christ's humility and dependence on divine providence.
Prayer is essential to my daily life, renewing and strengthening me to live out my vows. I'm grateful for the gift of vowed life, which calls me to love, humility, compassion, and trust in God's presence. I pray for the grace to remain faithful, finding joy in surrendering to God's will.
