Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

On Thanksgiving Day, we give thanks for our life and mission.

With grateful hearts we pray for blessings on our benefactors,
friends, family and our congregation as a whole.

Thanksgiving Day Greetings from the Province of Africa
to our sisters, family, friends, associates and staff in the U.S.A.

For Africa, thanksgiving is essentially a harvest related festival, celebrating communal harmony usually observed with different names and in different seasons.

Generally, it is characterised with fun and merrymaking and each culture/tribe/country has its unique customs and traditions. For instance, the Ga people of Ghana celebrate the Homowo Festival (Homowo a Ghanian word that means hooting or jeering at hunger). Like in most west African countries, it is primarily a festival of thanks for the yam which is one of the country's main food source.

In some other countries like Liberia, the people usually attend a church service where they bring along fruits which are auctioned off afterwards. Then they return home to enjoy a family meal.

Although the essence is the same, each festival/celebration of thanksgiving is exclusive and different from the others.

We are celebrating the bountiful harvest and other blessings of the year received from God.

Happy Thanksgiving Day!
