St. Kizito Mission School
Magwagwa, Kenya — The School Sisters of Notre Dame Magwagwa Community, proclaim the good news by witnessing to unity through their presence. Besides working in school, they also work with women, youths and small Christian communities visiting the parishioners in their different outstations. It is always exciting to meet with them as they are welcoming and open to share their stories.
Often the people come with food items such as vegetables, bananas, milk, potatoes, eggs, groundnuts, etc., which are the main food grown in this area. The visits give sisters an opportunity to learn the culture and their lifestyle. These have become an avenue for them to share their blessings and challenges. In their sharing, the sisters have become a bridge of unity to many who believe that if they share their challenges, their problems find a solution.
Working at St. Kizito Mission School has been a wonderful experience. The children come from different family backgrounds. The sisters strive to create an environment that seeks to develop a spiritual, intellectual and social growth for about 200 pupils from kindergarten to grade eight. The sisters have been successful in training the students to be respectful, loving, responsible and even learn to study on their own. You find that as young as they are, during free time, they study on their own.
The children are guided to participate in the liturgy. Gradually, a Shalom group has been introduced at the school. Pupils are encouraged to care for their environment and especially to use water wisely.
