Notre Dame Shalom School
Abuja, Nigeria – Notre Dame Shalom School is a response of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (S5ND) to the many invitations they had received from the Abuja Archdiocese in Nigeria to foster unity , promote peace, and address the educational needs of the vulnerable children in this area and beyond.
The school is located in Kagini (which means saving lives), a village in between two other villages Kubwa and Dei-dei, on the outskirts of Abuja. The people of this community are known for their hospitality. Though it is a small village, it is very populated with people of various tribes, people of different Christian denominations, Muslims, and Traditional believers. The community lacks almost all the basic social amenities like pipe-bone water, good road and drainage system, health care facility, steady electricity supply, among others. The majority of people here engage in farming with a few who work in the capital city as civil servants.

The school will be opened in September 2025. This institution will provide the young generation the opportunity to acquire knowledge, build good relationships, develop their self-esteem, and a positive attitude towards life. Together, we will be able to bring peace, nonviolence, and respect for each other. Laying a solid foundation for young children will help build bridges and plant strong cultural values of living together in peace amongst Christians, Muslims, and other denominations.
The School Sisters of Notre Dame believe that it is their call to reach out to the poor (both material and spiritual, thereby committing themselves to a holistic and integral formation among the people of Abuja. With the support of people of qoodwill, we believe that this September, we will welcome our first students at Notre Dame Shalom School.
